The Odisha cabinet has approved a scheme aimed at providing nutritious food to adolescent girls, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and severely underweight children. According to Chief Secretary PK Jena, the Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana (MSPY) scheme, which has a projected cost of Rs 3,354.40 crore, will screen adolescent girls for anaemia and provide nutritious food to all of them. The government will also organise Kishori Melas. The scheme will be implemented over five years from FY 2023-24. Pregnant and lactating women will receive an additional ration of nutrient-rich food, including millets and eggs. Nutritious food will also be provided to underweight children up to age six. The cabinet approved 14 other proposals, including recommending the inclusion of Sora language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
