Newcastle United may be targeting AC Milan midfielder, Sandro Tonali, as the club prepares to strengthen its squad this summer. The Italian, who is 23 years old, has been identified as a top transfer priority for the Magpies, with talks already underway.
This would not be the first time Newcastle has swooped in to secure a player from AC Milan. Last summer, the club signed Sven Botman from Lille after the Italian side failed to secure the player due to budgetary constraints and behind-the-scenes disagreements. Botman became one of Newcastle’s key signings last season and helped the team avoid relegation.
AC Milan’s troubles do not seem to be subsiding this year either. Technical director Paolo Maldini and sporting director Frederic Massara were both sacked in recent weeks, leaving several dressing room figures unhappy with the situation.
Newcastle is hoping to take advantage of this turmoil at AC Milan and lure Tonali to St James’ Park. The Magpies can offer the midfielder Champions League football, a shot at the premier league title, and a chance to be part of a promising and exciting journey. They may also offer Tonali a much heftier pay packet than what he is currently earning.
Tonali’s representatives are already in Newcastle to discuss a possible deal, while the midfielder is away on international duty with the Italian U21 team. Should the transfer go ahead, Tonali would be a significant addition to Newcastle’s squad and would provide a much-needed boost to the team’s midfield.
It remains to be seen whether AC Milan can hold onto their prized asset, with Newcastle looking to repeat their successful transfer strategy from last year.
