Hours after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the fourth time in the excise policy case, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing the investigating agency to prevent Kejriwal from campaigning for the upcoming general elections. The ED asked Kejriwal to appear for questioning on January 18, the same day he was scheduled to visit Goa for election preparations. Gopal Rai, AAP’s Delhi state convener and environment minister, alleged that the timing was not a coincidence. The party urged the ED to refrain from becoming a political tool for the BJP and criticized it for leaking the notice to the media before reaching the CM. The BJP, on the other hand, accused Kejriwal of acting like a fugitive and disregarding the ED’s summons. Kejriwal has labeled the notices illegal and politically motivated. The Delhi BJP chief, Virendra Sachdeva, remarked that the AAP and Kejriwal could not maintain their facade of honesty any longer.
