Two brothers have been sentenced for their involvement in the sale of cocaine in Basildon and other parts of the county after a ‘complex investigation’ by the police. Tai Parsons, 23, and Leo Parsons were both convicted at Basildon Crown Court on Wednesday 10 January. Chloe Taylor, 35, also received a sentence after admitting her role as a drug user working for the line. The investigation, which focused on a drug line advertising cocaine for sale in various areas, utilized communications analysis and lasted several months. The case relied on overwhelming evidence, leading to guilty pleas from all three defendants.
The investigation initially linked the holders of two mobile phones to the supply and distribution of bulk amounts of cocaine. In March 2023, raids were conducted at addresses in Colchester and Basildon, resulting in the arrests of the Parsons brothers on suspicion of conspiracy to supply a Class A drug. During the searches, cash, mobile phones, designer clothing, and a quantity of cocaine were seized. Chloe Taylor was arrested at a separate Basildon address on suspicion of being involved in the supply of drugs.
Speaking about the case, PS James Morrish, the officer in charge, described the investigation as complex. He highlighted the use of communications analysis and the ability to gather evidence over several months, leading to charges being secured on the day of the warrants’ execution. PS Morrish emphasized that the operation dismantled a drug line that exploited vulnerable individuals suffering from addiction.
In regards to the individual sentences, Tai Parsons, from Colchester, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison. Leo Parsons, his brother, received a suspended sentence of 19 months in a youth offender institution, along with 200 hours of unpaid work, a 50-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and monitoring obligations. Chloe Taylor, from Basildon, was also handed a suspended sentence of 16 months, in addition to a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and drug and mental health obligations.
The sentencing of these individuals marks another step in the ongoing fight against drug-related crime in the area. The police, through their complex investigation, have successfully disrupted the supply of cocaine and taken individuals off the streets who were actively involved in its distribution. This outcome serves as a warning to others involved in drug-related offenses and reaffirms the commitment to maintaining the safety and well-being of the local community.
