Next-Gen Dodge Charger Unveiled: Electric Rebirth with Powerful Upgrades, US

The exterior of the next-generation Dodge Charger has been revealed ahead of its highly anticipated debut later this year. Dodge took to Instagram to showcase undisguised photos of a new pre-production model that will be released in the US from late 2024. While the car remains unnamed for now, it bears a striking resemblance to the 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Daytona EV concept, with a few subtle differences. Notably, the pre-production vehicle features larger wing mirrors, recessed door handles, side marker lights on the wheel arches, and sleek low-profile road tires. One key change from its predecessor is that the new Charger will have two doors instead of four. Moreover, it will initially be sold without petrol-fueled drivetrains, signaling Dodge’s commitment to electric vehicles (EVs).

Underneath its striking exterior, the new Charger will be built on the STLA Large architecture, which is specially designed to support electric vehicles. However, rumors have circulated suggesting that the Charger may also offer an internal combustion engine option. Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis addressed these speculations, stating, I can put an ICE engine in it. It doesn’t mean we’re going to. We’re certainly not launching with anything like that. We’re launching full battery electric.

During the unveiling of the Charger Daytona concept, Dodge hinted at various electric powertrain options for the production version. The base model would come equipped with a 400V electrical system and offer a system output of 340kW. Customers could also choose between eStage 1 and eStage 2 upgrades, which would boost power to 370kW and 400kW, respectively. Additionally, a 440kW variant utilizing the same 400V electrical system would be available, featuring eStage 1 and eStage 2 upgrades that deliver 470kW and 500kW, respectively. For those seeking even greater power, an 800V electric system could be selected, potentially offering up to 660kW.

To support these powerful electric drivetrains, the new Charger would rely on batteries ranging from 101kWh to 118kWh, allowing for an impressive driving range of up to 800km between charges.

The Charger’s transformation from a traditional muscle car to an electrified powerhouse aligns with Dodge’s commitment to performance-driven electric vehicles. While the Charger’s rebirth marks the end of the Challenger, enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the dynamic capabilities of this electrified coupe later this year. With its impressive power, sleek design, and advanced technology, the Charger aims to redefine what it means to be an American muscle car in the electric era.
