President Tinubu has approved an intervention fund of N683.4 billion for public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, according to the executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono. The announcement was made during the TETFund’s strategic planning meeting with heads of beneficiary institutions in Abuja. The intervention fund will be disbursed with 90.75% earmarked for direct disbursement, 8.94% for special projects, and 2.27% to address emerging issues. The breakdown of the fund shows that universities will receive N1.9 billion each, polytechnics N1.16 billion each, and colleges of education N1.3 billion each. This year’s intervention represents a significant increase compared to previous years, attributed to expanded efforts in collecting education tax. The funds from TETFund are used for capital projects, lecturer training, and academic research in public tertiary institutions.
