Sony Might Be Planning a New PS5 DualSense Controller With 12-Hour Battery
Sony is rumored to be working on an updated version of its popular PS5 DualSense controller. According to a now-deleted listing on the Canadian Best Buy store, the new controller, referred to as the DualSense V2, boasts an impressive 12-hour battery life at maximum charge, a significant improvement over the existing model’s 7-8 hour battery life. Priced at CAD 89.99 (about Rs. 5,580), the listing also mentioned the inclusion of a click-in charging station, allowing gamers to play for longer periods and conveniently store the controller after use.
While the DualSense V2 controller appears similar to its predecessor in terms of design, it reportedly features a few notable enhancements. It retains features such as a 3.5mm headphone jack, an in-built microphone, and haptic feedback motors and adaptive triggers for a more immersive gaming experience. Weighing in at 280 grams, it maintains the same weight as the original DualSense controller. However, it is important to note that the Best Buy listing may not have provided all the specifications, and Sony has not officially confirmed the release of the new controller.
During the recent CES 2024 presentation, Sony showcased three new color options for the PS5: blue, silver, and red. While the listing did not explicitly mention it, it is expected that side plates for these colors will be available for separate purchase in the future. Additionally, Sony demonstrated another innovative use for the PS5 DualSense controller at the event. They showcased its integration with the Afeela, an electric vehicle developed in collaboration with Honda. The controller can remotely drive the Afeela and features a large panoramic screen covering the front console.
This potential update to the DualSense controller follows reports from November that Sony had filed a patent for an enhanced design. The patent described features such as AI assistance that would light up buttons, triggers, and analogue sticks to aid players in solving puzzles. Another proposed feature was the use of the controller’s touchpad as an additional visual display to provide in-game hints. While the patent filing does not guarantee the implementation of these features, it highlights Sony’s commitment to pushing boundaries and enhancing the gaming experience.
As of now, Sony has not provided any official information regarding the release date or availability of the DualSense V2 controller. Gaming enthusiasts and fans of the PS5 will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting any official announcements from the company.
