After UAE’s five-wicket loss to Oman in the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem was disappointed with his side’s performance, stating that they lacked discipline while bowling in the middle overs. The captain aimed for a score of around 260-270 runs, but UAE only managed to post 227/8 in their 50 overs. Despite Aayan Khan’s unbeaten 58 in 52 balls, the UAE team collapsed in the middle.
Oman, on the other hand, continued their winning momentum with three half-centuries from Aqib Ilyas, Shoaib Khan, and Mohammad Nadeem during their chase to clinch their second successive victory, with four overs and five wickets in hand.
Jay Odedra was the pick of the bowlers for Oman, while Junaid Siddique stood out for UAE. With two wins in two matches, Oman holds the top spot in Group B with a total of four points. However, UAE is at the bottom with two losses in two games and zero points.
Although UAE started well, the team failed to capitalize on it, which eventually led to their defeat. The pitch was sluggish, and they needed to be more disciplined with the ball and in the field. UAE’s spinners bowled reasonably well, but Aayan and Nadeem played well for Oman.
Shoaib Khan was given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his fifty. The road ahead is difficult for UAE, and they need to win their remaining matches to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive. Oman, on the other hand, continues their journey impressively, gaining momentum and showcasing their skills with a clear intention to qualify for the qualifiers.
