Duane Davis, the suspect charged with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, has been ordered to remain under house arrest until his trial. The bail was set at $750,000, and Davis’ attorneys expect him to post bail soon. Prosecutors had argued that releasing Davis before the trial could endanger witnesses, citing a recorded prison call between Davis and his son where a green light was mentioned regarding individuals the prosecution planned to call as witnesses. The federal government even provided resources for one witness to change his residence due to concerns for his safety. However, Davis’ lawyers denied the allegations, stating that he never threatened anyone during the phone calls and claiming that the prosecution misinterpreted the use of the term green light. They further argued that it was Davis and his family who were facing potential danger. Davis’ attorneys also questioned why it took 15 years for the police and prosecutors to arrest him if he posed such a threat to witnesses. They requested a $100,000 bail for Davis to remain under house arrest until his June 2024 trial, emphasizing his medical issues and lack of proper care behind bars. Davis is accused of being the leader of the group responsible for Shakur’s murder, while Davis himself maintains that he was present at the crime scene but did not commit the shooting. The other suspects involved in the case have either died or were never charged. Davis pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and is currently awaiting trial.
