New Delhi, January 9 – The Central government has made significant promotions within the bureaucracy, upgrading the rank of several officials to the post of Additional Secretary. Among the 11 senior bureaucrats affected by the decision is Rahul Navin, the acting director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Navin, a 1993 batch IRS officer, has been serving as the Special Director in the ED and has now been appointed as the Additional Secretary.

The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the in-situ upgradation of these officers to the level of Additional Secretary as a measure personal to them. The move temporarily upgrades the posts they hold. Navin, who assumed the role of acting director after the departure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra in September 2020, will continue in his position until the appointment of a regular director or further orders from the government.

In addition to Navin, the following officers have been promoted to the rank of Additional Secretary: Shubha Thakur in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Sanjukta Mudgal in the Ministry of Culture, Anant Swarup in the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Navaljit Kapoor in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Manoj Pandey in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Anurag Bajpai in the Department of Defence Production, Alok Pande in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management under the Ministry of Finance, Sunil Kumar in the Department of Science and Technology, Hanif Qureshi in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, and Anandrao Vishnu Patil in the Department of School Education and Literacy.

In addition to these promotions, seven other officers who are currently assigned to various ministries and departments have also been appointed as Additional Secretaries. Sanjeev Kumar Jindal will assume the role of Additional Secretary in the Department of Home under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The aim of these promotions is to strengthen the leadership and management capabilities of these officials in their respective roles to better serve the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Appointments Committee of Cabinet are committed to creating a reliable and efficient bureaucracy to promote good governance and ensure the smooth functioning of government agencies.

The Central government’s move to elevate the rank of these 11 bureaucrats comes as a recognition of their outstanding contributions and expertise in their respective fields. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding talented officials who have dedicated their careers to public service.

The upgraded officers will now hold the position of Additional Secretary to the Indian government, empowering them with greater responsibilities and authority. This elevation will not only enhance their professional growth but also enable them to contribute effectively to policy formulation and decision-making processes.

The decision by the Central government to upgrade the posts of these bureaucrats showcases its focus on strengthening the administrative machinery and ensuring efficient governance across various departments and ministries. With these promotions, the government aims to harness the talent and experience of these officials to drive growth, development, and positive change in the country.

This move by the Central government is expected to motivate and inspire other bureaucrats to work diligently to serve the people and contribute to the nation’s progress. It highlights the importance of recognizing and rewarding merit and competence in the civil services, ultimately fostering an environment of professionalism, accountability, and dedication within the bureaucracy.

As the Additional Secretaries assume their new roles, the government is hopeful that their enhanced positions will lead to enhanced efficiency, effectiveness, and transparency in the functioning of different government departments and ministries. It is a significant step toward realizing the government’s vision of building a strong and prosperous India.

The Central government’s decision to grant promotions to these officials is indicative of its commitment to promoting excellence and meritocracy within the Indian bureaucracy. As the nation embarks on its path of growth and development, it is crucial to have competent and capable leaders driving progress and implementing effective policies. With this latest development, the government is reinforcing its dedication to empowering and equipping its bureaucracy with the necessary resources to effectively address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
