Two men have become internet heroes after saving a kangaroo from drowning in Sunbury, Victoria. Rick Koineg and Bryan Starec were taking Starec’s dog for a walk when they spotted the distressed kangaroo in fast-flowing water. In a video of the rescue that quickly went viral, Koineg can be seen jumping into the water and lifting the kangaroo to safety. However, the kangaroo didn’t seem very thankful, as it took a swing at the men before hopping away to safety. Reflecting on the experience, Koineg admitted underestimating the danger but said he would do it again if he had to. The incident occurred in Sunbury, which, despite recent heavy rainfall, has not been as severely impacted as other parts of Victoria currently facing floods. Emergency crews in Victoria have conducted over 38 flood rescues in the last 24 hours, bringing the state’s total count to 58 since the beginning of the year.
