A 10-year-old girl was kidnapped from northeast Delhi’s Nandnagri but was rescued and safely reunited with her family by the police. The accused, Mohammad Iqbal, has been arrested. He is a resident of Nindru village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh and a notorious criminal, named in two rape cases and cases under the Arms Act.
The girl was kidnapped on June 19 while she was playing outside her sister’s house. She was rescued from the Mulla colony of Ghazipur in east Delhi, police said, adding that the accused intended to sexually assault her.
The accused was seen in CCTV footage carrying the victim along with him at 6.45 pm on June 19, headed towards the Wazirabad road from Sunder Nagri. Initially, the police did not have any clue about the suspect’s whereabouts. But after conducting a door-to-door survey at the Mulla colony where the accused was staying, the police apprehended him and rescued the victim girl.
The DCP said that Iqbal was planning to head to his native village in Bijnor with the girl. The accused’s wife had left him in 2019, and one of his brothers was in jail. Recently, he had brought a woman and her two children from Dhampur in Uttar Pradesh.
