Hundreds of bulbs have been planted at the UHI Inverness Campus, thanks to the efforts of the Young Gardeners Exploring Group. Students from across the Highlands have been working tirelessly to prepare the college grounds for an explosion of color this coming spring. Supported by gardening volunteer John Walmsley, the students have not only planted the bulbs but also built a bespoke bug hotel and created outdoor decorations and signs.
The UHI Inverness Campus took to social media to express their excitement, stating, Our campus grounds will be a riot of color next spring thanks to the efforts of our Young Gardeners Exploring Group members who really dug in and planted a staggering 800 bulbs between September and December. We can’t wait to see the results of all their hard work!
The planting project has involved Supported Education Schools’ Group students from Kingussie, Dingwall, Nairn, and Inverness Royal Academy. These dedicated students have been working alongside John every Monday, pouring their energy into transforming the campus grounds. The collaboration has not only beautified the area but also provided valuable hands-on learning experiences for the students.
In addition to the planting, the students have also constructed a one-of-a-kind bug hotel in the wellbeing garden. This environmentally friendly addition will encourage biodiversity and provide a habitat for beneficial insects. Furthermore, the students have embraced their creativity by making outdoor decorations and signs, adding a personal touch to the campus.
The UHI Inverness spokesperson expressed their gratitude, saying, A huge well done to the students, staff, and John for this fantastic contribution. The benefits of this collaborative effort are not only visual but also educational and inspiring for all involved.
The UHI Inverness supported education programs offer a wide range of opportunities and resources for students looking to explore their passions and develop new skills. The programs aim to support and empower students, fostering a sense of camaraderie and dedication to community projects like the campus beautification initiative.
