Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi fully agrees with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ views on the importance of Yoga. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, PM Modi extended his wishes to all and expressed his agreement with Guterres’ message on Yoga’s significance. The UN Secretary-General encouraged people worldwide to embrace Yoga and build a more harmonious world. He added that Yoga not only unites the body and mind but also millions of people worldwide. Further, Guterres stated that Yoga promotes mental well-being and helps connect us to our planet, which requires our protection.
PM Modi responded by tweeting that he fully agreed with Guterres and hoped that Yoga Day would bring us all closer and improve our planet’s health. The Indian Prime Minister was leading a special Yoga session at the UN headquarters in New York, making his maiden official visit to the US. He had initially mooted the idea of International Yoga Day during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
Yoga has become increasingly popular worldwide because of its ability to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and overall fitness. After overseeing the Yoga Day celebrations in New York, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Washington D.C, where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22. He is also set to call on President Joe Biden on Thursday.
