Congress leader Jaivardhan Singh has expressed doubts about the future role of Jyotiraditya Scindia and his loyalists in Madhya Pradesh politics. Scindia, who was a prominent Congress leader, quit the party three years ago and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Singh, who was a cabinet minister in the previous Kamal Nath-led government, suggested that Scindia’s role in his home state remains uncertain despite his appointment as a minister in the BJP-led government at the Centre.
Singh also cast doubt on whether Scindia loyalists who defected to the BJP with him in 2020 would be fielded as candidates in the forthcoming Assembly polls. The possibility of changes within the BJP’s leadership and strategy could mean that Scindia’s supporters may not be given a party ticket. Singh’s comments come after Scindia’s defection led to the collapse of the Nath government. While some have suggested that Singh tried to quash Scindia’s ambitions when he was part of the Congress, Singh denied these claims, stating that Scindia was a respected leader and a colleague within the party.
