Fire at Tyreek Hill’s house ruled accidental

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A fire that broke out at the $6.9 million home owned by Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill has been determined to be accidental, according to Davie Fire Marshal Robert Taylor. The fire was started by a child playing with a cigarette lighter in a bedroom, Taylor confirmed on Thursday. The exact age of the child and the extent of the damage caused by the fire have not been disclosed. The investigation into the incident has been concluded.

Hill’s house, located in Southwest Ranches, was purchased by the receiver in May 2022 following his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Dolphins. The fire attracted significant attention, with Miami television station WSVN showing footage of thick black smoke billowing from the roof as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames. The upper parts of the structure, which included several bedrooms, a home theatre, and a den, were the focus of the firefighting efforts.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, provided an update on the situation, assuring reporters that Hill and his family members who were home at the time of the fire were safe and unharmed. Rosenhaus expressed gratitude for the firefighters’ efforts in containing the fire to a limited area of the house, although there would likely be some smoke and water damage. Rosenhaus also commended Hill and his family for their calm and composed response to the incident. Hill has not made any public statements regarding the incident and was absent from Dolphins practice on Thursday.

In other NFL news, running back Dalvin Cook has joined the Baltimore Ravens for their playoff run after being waived by the New York Jets. Cook, who cleared waivers and became a free agent, confirmed the move through his agents at LAA Sports & Entertainment. NFL Network first reported the Ravens’ decision to sign Cook, with ESPN also confirming that Cook would initially be added to the Ravens’ practice squad. The four-time Pro Bowler will have the opportunity to familiarize himself with Baltimore’s offense before the team’s postseason begins in a couple of weeks. It remains uncertain whether Cook will be available for the Ravens’ final regular-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have made additions to their practice squad, bringing back offensive lineman La’el Collins and linebacker Damien Wilson, both of whom had not played in 2023. The team also welcomed receiver Racey McMath and former Texas Tech running back SaRodorick Thompson. To make room for these additions, the Cowboys released receiver Martavis Bryant, along with three other players, from the practice squad. Collins’ return comes at a crucial time, with left guard Tyler Smith nursing a foot injury and left tackle Tyron Smith recovering from a back issue that sidelined him a couple of weeks ago. Collins, who signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2015, brings valuable experience. Wilson, a fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2015, has had stints with several teams since leaving Dallas.

These developments have caught the attention of football fans and analysts, as teams make moves to strengthen their lineups and navigate the challenges of the upcoming games and playoffs. As the season progresses, it remains to be seen how these changes will impact the dynamics of the teams involved.
