A Redding man, Gregory Wise, appeared in court yesterday for his alleged involvement in a triple bank robbery spree. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office revealed that Wise, 34, is also facing additional charges related to two other bank robberies in Butte and Tehama counties. The spree took place last year in November and December, with robberies reported in Redding, Red Bluff, and Chico.

The first incident occurred on November 17, 2023, at Umpqua Bank in Redding. The suspect, wearing a mask, entered the bank and demanded cash using a note. Two weeks later, on December 1, the Tri-Counties Bank in Chico was targeted by an individual wearing identical clothing to the first robbery. The final incident took place on December 18 at US Bank in Red Bluff, with the suspect donning a costume mask and attire similar to the previous robberies.

Following an investigation, law enforcement officials identified Gregory Wise as the prime suspect. A search of Wise’s residence by detectives revealed a mask, clothing, and stolen cash believed to be connected to the robberies. Redding police confirmed that Wise has previous convictions for weapons, theft, and stalking charges. Notably, Wise had been released from parole on November 17, the same day as the initial Umpqua Bank robbery.

The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office announced that Wise’s arraignment on the charges is set for January 18. If convicted, he could face severe legal consequences. The community is eager to see justice served for the crimes committed, and the case has gained significant attention due to the nature of the robberies and Wise’s criminal history.

Bank robberies are serious offenses that impact not only financial institutions but also the individuals and communities who rely on them. Authorities are working diligently to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. The local community hopes that the process will provide closure and peace of mind to the affected banks and individuals.

Despite the alarming nature of the case, it serves as a reminder of the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the public. Detectives were able to identify Wise as a suspect due to their meticulous investigation and the assistance of community members who provided information. This exemplifies the vital role that community engagement plays in solving crimes and maintaining public safety.

As Gregory Wise’s case moves forward, the public eagerly awaits further developments and a resolution to the troubling series of bank robberies. It serves as a reminder that even acts of criminality can bring communities together, fostering a sense of resilience and vigilance in the face of adversity.
