Indian airline Akasa has ordered four more Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, bringing its total to 76, with plans to announce another significant three-digit order before the end of the year. Currently backed by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Akasa began flying in August 2021 and expects delivery of its 20th aircraft next month to support international operations. The carrier’s existing order book includes 23 B737-8s, known as the MAX in the US, and 53 of Boeing’s high-capacity 737-8-200.
CEO Vinay Dube said the model’s fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions aligned with Akasa’s environmentally conscious ethos, while Boeing’s senior VP of commercial sales and marketing noted the follow-on order demonstrated the jet’s capabilities in what is said to be the world’s fastest-growing commercial aviation market. Boeing said it had secured more than 1,000 orders and commitmens for its commercial aircraft since July 2022, with over 750 of this numbers representing the new 737 MAX.
