Man Found Guilty in Brutal Attack on Neighbor in Wervin, Receives Community Order, UK

A Chester man has been sentenced for assaulting a woman during a parking dispute. David Groome, 59, was found guilty of assault by beating and appeared before Chester Magistrates Court for sentencing. The incident occurred when Groome approached the victim, who was gardening outside her home. He proceeded to use foul language before elbowing her in the left cheek, causing her to fall. While she was on the ground, he punched her before she managed to escape. The victim provided an impact statement, expressing the physical and emotional toll the incident had taken on her. Groome’s defence attorney claimed that the assault was the result of a long-running parking dispute between the victim and Groome’s partner, who is the victim’s next-door neighbor. Despite this explanation, Groome was sentenced to a 12-month community order and ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also required to pay £250 in compensation to the victim, as well as £400 in court costs and a £114 victim surcharge. Additionally, Groome was issued a two-year restraining order, forbidding any contact with the victim. The court aimed to provide justice and safety for the victim, delivering consequences for Groome’s actions.
