In a shocking incident in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh, a woman was brutally beaten with iron chains by a Tantrik in an attempt to ‘cure’ her infertility. The incident resulted in the woman’s death. The victim had been struggling to conceive a child for 15 years of marriage, prompting her in-laws to seek the help of a Tantrik.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Manjita (34), and Prakash Damor, residents of Nagarwat, had been married for 15 years without any children. In a bid to find a solution, the family took Manjita to a Tantrik in Ranapur. The Tantrik claimed that she was possessed by an evil spirit and proceeded to subject her to a three-day ordeal of being beaten with iron chains as part of the supposed treatment.
Tragically, Manjita lost her life on Wednesday evening due to the injuries inflicted upon her. The incident occurred in Naganwat village and the local police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Following the incident, the woman’s body underwent a post-mortem examination, which revealed signs of beatings on her body. However, the exact cause of death remains unclear at this stage. The Tantrik responsible for the brutal treatment reportedly claimed that the deceased woman was possessed.
Relatives of the victim, including her brother, Martin, explained the events leading up to her death. They revealed that Manjita’s husband was present during the sessions with the Tantrik on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, as her husband had some work, her father and brother accompanied her. It was during this time that the Tantrik beat her with an iron chain for an hour, causing her to lose consciousness. When Manjita regained consciousness, the Tantrik advised her family to rush her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away before reaching the medical facility.
Jhabua SP Agam Jain confirmed that further action would be taken once the family’s statement has been obtained. He also noted that the woman was anemic, and a conclusive determination of the cause of death could only be made after the results of the viscera test.
This shocking incident has once again brought to the forefront concerns over the widespread belief in superstition and the dangers associated with seeking unscientific remedies. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the urgent need for education, awareness, and the eradication of such practices that can lead to fatal consequences.
The local community is expressing shock and outrage over the incident, demanding justice for the victim. As investigations continue, authorities will be under pressure to ensure that all those responsible for this brutal act are held accountable for their actions.
