Former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, along with other prominent members of the PML-N party, attended the wedding ceremony of Ibrahim Tariq Shafi, the son of loyalist Tariq Shafi. Ibrahim Tariq Shafi, a graduate of the London School of Economics (LSE), currently oversees the operations of the Ittefaq Group of Companies. At the wedding, Nawaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the loyalty shown by Tariq Shafi during challenging times.
Tariq Shafi, a renowned industrialist and cousin of Nawaz Sharif, had spent nearly four years in exile in London. He was approached by the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to testify against Nawaz in the Avenfield case due to his previous role as the CEO of Gulf Steel Mill in Dubai. Throughout his time in London and visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Tariq Shafi resisted pressure from both Imran Khan’s government and establishment operatives to go against Nawaz and benefit from it.
Tragically, Tariq Shafi passed away from a cardiac arrest in Muree on June 28, 2021, after finally returning to Pakistan in April 2020. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and resilience in the face of immense challenges.
