Renowned television producer Nigel Lythgoe is facing an investigation led by Sony Pictures Television’s 19 Entertainment, the co-producer of So You Think You Can Dance, according to an insider. Sony declined to comment on the matter, keeping the investigation details under wraps.
This development comes in the wake of two sexual assault lawsuits filed against Lythgoe, including one by Paula Abdul on December 29. Abdul, a former judge on So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol, has also sued 19 Entertainment, FremantleMedia North America, American Idol Productions, and Dance Nation Productions. The lawsuit alleges that the entities failed to hold Lythgoe accountable for his actions and protect Abdul from harassment and assault.
The lawsuit further states that Abdul had refrained from speaking out for years, fearing the repercussions of going against a powerful figure in the television competition show industry.
