Alstom Wins Victoria Fleet Maintenance Contract
Alstom, a leading global provider of sustainable mobility solutions, has secured a remarkable €900m contract to maintain the VLocity and Classic regional train fleets in Victoria, Australia. This significant achievement positions Alstom as a trusted partner in the Australian rail industry.
Under the contract, Alstom will handle the maintenance of the VLocity diesel multiple-units, which were originally manufactured at Alstom’s Dandenong plant. These units will be serviced alongside the Classic fleet at various sites strategically located in West Melbourne, South Dynon, and Ballarat East.
Alstom’s commitment to the local economy is commendable, with 98% of the labor involved in maintaining the train fleets set to be sourced from Victoria. Furthermore, 69% of maintenance materials will be supplied by local companies. The company has also pledged to allocate 6% of its spending to 40 local social benefit suppliers over the duration of the contract, demonstrating its dedication to fostering positive social impact within the community.
To enhance operational efficiency, Alstom plans to establish a fleet control center in South Dynon. Inspired by the successful model managing the Bombardier-built Voyager DEMU fleet in the United Kingdom, this center will play a pivotal role in streamlining maintenance processes, ensuring seamless operations, and reducing downtime. Additionally, the utilization of cutting-edge predictive maintenance technology will contribute to the overall reduction of fuel costs and carbon emissions, aligning with Alstom’s commitment to sustainability.
This contract win signifies the strength and expertise of Alstom in providing state-of-the-art maintenance services that ensure the continued reliability and performance of the VLocity and Classic regional train fleets. Victoria’s commuters will benefit from Alstom’s dedication to excellence in delivering safe and efficient transportation solutions.
Alstom’s significant presence in Australia and this latest contract win underscore the company’s global reputation as a leader in the rail industry, offering innovative and sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of passengers worldwide. The project not only solidifies Alstom’s strong partnership with Victoria, but it also contributes to the growth and development of local industries and job opportunities.
This transformative maintenance contract reinforces Alstom’s position as a key player in driving the future of sustainable mobility in Victoria and across Australia. Commuters can look forward to a seamless travel experience, while the community at large can benefit from the social and economic advancements brought about by Alstom’s commitment to the region.
