Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir – On June 20, 2021, Srinagar experienced the hottest day of the season so far, with the mercury rising to 33.3 degrees Celsius. A Meteorological (MeT) department official stated that this could just be the beginning, as temperatures continue to climb in the coming days.
It’s been an unusual season for the region, with temperatures plummeting earlier this month. So, as the thermometer edges up, locals are hoping for some relief. Farmers and orchardists, in particular, are grateful for the hot summer weather as it’s crucial for the vegetation and fruits to grow.
Minimum temperatures varied across the region, with Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg recording 19.7, 10.6, and 13.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. In Ladakh’s Kargil region, the minimum temperature was 12.8 degrees Celsius, while Leh recorded a low of 9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Jammu had a minimum temperature of 30.5, with Katra, Batote, Banihal, and Bhaderwah recording 25.2, 21.2, 29, and 19.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.
As the mercury continues to rise in Srinagar and the surrounding areas, locals are dreading the sweltering heat, but remain hopeful that the hot summer weather will bring growth and prosperity to the region.
