Alabama WR Shazz Preston Enters Transfer Portal Day After Rose Bowl, Per Report
Alabama wide receiver Shazz Preston has decided to enter the transfer portal following the Crimson Tide’s loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl, according to a report by Hayes Fawcett of On3. Preston, a second-year player, becomes the first departure from Alabama since the College Football Playoff Semifinal defeat.
During his time with the Crimson Tide, Preston appeared in 10 games mainly on special teams, with some reps at wide receiver. Alabama players had until January 6th to enter the transfer portal after participating in the CFP.
As the deadline to declare for the NFL Draft approaches on January 15th, Preston’s decision to transfer comes amidst the news of his teammate Dallas Turner eagerly announcing his intentions in the locker room postgame.
Hailing from St. James High in Louisiana, Preston was a highly touted four-star recruit and ranked as a top-100 prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. He joins the ranks of Alabama players who have recently entered the transfer portal, including Anquin Barnes (Colorado), Ja’Corey Brooks (Louisville), Tyler Buchner (Notre Dame – lacrosse), and uncommitted defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings.
Alabama has already secured commitments from three players, including Naquil Betrand from Texas A&M, LT Overton, and USC’s Domani Jackson during their time in California. With the potential for additional transfers and a strong recruiting class, the Crimson Tide will likely have more players seeking opportunities elsewhere.
While the Crimson Tide navigates these changes, they remain focused on maintaining their reputation as a leading college football program. The loss of Preston, along with the other departing players, presents an opportunity for new talent to step up and make their mark on the team.
As Alabama continues to make headlines both on and off the field, fans and followers eagerly await further news on the program’s future and the upcoming NFL Draft.
