Las Vegas police arrest man 17 years after sex assault investigation began

Metro police arrested a man nearly 20 years after police filed a warrant for his arrest on sexual assault charges involving a minor, according to documents obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators.

Eduardo Minas, 60, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 29, by Metro police, who had signed a warrant for his arrest in October 2006. That is more than 17 years ago.

Minas is facing charges of sexual assault involving a victim under the age of 16, as well as statutory sexual seduction, according to the documents. It remains unclear from the records what led police to Minas on Friday.

The alleged abuse involving the minor was reported to the police in September 2006, the documents revealed. While the age of the minor was redacted from court records, the charge indicates that they were under 16 at the time.

During the police interview, the minor disclosed that Minas had raped her on two occasions, according to the documents.

In their investigations back in 2006, police attempted to locate Minas at his workplace but were unable to find him. The documents also revealed that Minas resigned from his position as the police began their investigation.

As of Tuesday, Minas remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, where he was being held without bail.

It is vital to ensure that justice is served in cases involving sexual assault, especially when the victim is a minor. The diligent efforts of law enforcement, coupled with the courage of the victim to come forward, have culminated in the arrest of Eduardo Minas after a lengthy investigation spanning close to two decades. While details surrounding the recent breakthrough in the case remain undisclosed, the arrest serves as a reminder that the pursuit of justice knows no time limits.

Sexual assault cases often involve sensitive information, especially when minors are involved. Disclosing such details can be distressing for victims and their families. It is imperative that the privacy and well-being of the victim are protected throughout the legal process. The arrest of Eduardo Minas is a prime example of the commitment of law enforcement agencies to seek justice and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of the time that has passed.

As the trial progresses, it is expected that further details will emerge. The victim’s testimonies and any additional evidence will contribute to the pursuit of justice. It is crucial to approach such cases with empathy and understanding, respecting the privacy of those affected and allowing the legal system to carry out its due process.

This arrest reinforces the determination of law enforcement to address unresolved cases and provide closure to victims who have endured years of anguish and trauma. It also sends a powerful message to offenders that their actions will not go unnoticed or unpunished, even if considerable time has elapsed.

Efforts to combat sexual assault continue to evolve with advancements in technology and investigative techniques. It is essential that law enforcement agencies remain committed to pursuing justice, regardless of how long ago the crime occurred. This arrest in Las Vegas serves as a testament to the dedication and persistence required to bring offenders to justice, no matter the span of time involved.
