New Year’s Eve Celebration Goes Digital as Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zomato Break All Records

New Year’s Eve is usually a festive occasion. But in India, grocery and meal delivery have skyrocketed, giving the celebrations a digital spin. Food and grocery delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy, and Blinkit have emerged as the hidden heroes of the New Year’s festivities as family and friends get together.

Using X (formerly Twitter), the CEOs of all the start-ups — including Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and Blinkit — shared order numbers and compared them to the same time last year. The companies also revealed the orders placed by users in 2024.

Zomato has also seen a notable spike in orders since Christmas. With the website sending more than 140 orders every second yesterday, the trend hit a new peak. Interestingly, one of the most popular foods bought on Zomato yesterday in India was biryani.

Zomato fulfilled more orders in 2023 than it did for the NYEs in total in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, according to Goyal’s tweet. The success of the platform and the changing delivery application usage patterns among Indian consumers throughout the holidays are demonstrated by these numbers.

NYE ’24 broke all records across Swiggy Food and Instamart! stated Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor in a post on X. Being with the squad at midnight makes me very pleased.

Swiggy’s Instamart orders per minute broke the record set on the day of the World Cup Finals, he said in another post. The orders per minute (OPM) on Swiggy Instamart is at an all-time high. Kapoor continued, It’s 1.6 times greater than our prior high from the WC Finals.

These platforms demonstrate not only the success of their business strategies but also the shifting patterns of consumption in Indian culture as they continue to meet the demands of special occasions and holiday seasons. With their adept management of order surges during key events such as the Indian Premier League and the Cricket World Cup Finals, Zomato and Swiggy have established themselves as essential components of the festive season in India.

The remarkable surge in orders made by Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zomato during New Year’s Eve reflects the transformation of festivities in India. As families and friends came together to welcome the new year, these food and grocery delivery apps played a pivotal role in ensuring the availability of essential supplies and delicious meals.

According to recent data shared by the CEOs of these platforms on X, the order volumes witnessed an unprecedented surge compared to the previous year. Zomato, one of the leading players in the industry, reported an astonishing increase in orders, fulfilling more orders on New Year’s Eve in 2023 compared to the cumulative orders placed in the preceding six years.

Not to be outdone, Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor shared the impressive performance of their subsidiary, Instamart. Orders per minute on Swiggy Instamart surpassed the record set during the World Cup Finals, showcasing the increasing reliance on these delivery services.

The surge in orders during the holiday season not only highlights the success of these platforms but also signifies a significant shift in Indian consumer behavior. Zomato, Swiggy, and Blinkit have undoubtedly become integral to the festive season, ensuring convenience and timely deliveries for customers across the country.

With their proactive management of order surges during major events like the Indian Premier League and the Cricket World Cup Finals, Zomato and Swiggy have consistently proven their ability to meet the heightened demands of special occasions. The popularity and reliability of these platforms have reshaped the way Indian households celebrate and indulge during important festivities.

As the world evolves towards a digital era, the success of Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zomato on New Year’s Eve emphasizes the growing preference for online grocery and meal delivery. These platforms have revolutionized the way Indians shop and dine, providing convenience and efficiency at their customers’ fingertips.

Indeed, the impressive order volumes achieved by Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zomato have solidified their positions as game-changers in the industry. As they continue to adapt and innovate, these delivery apps will undoubtedly shape the future of celebrations in India, ensuring that every occasion, including New Year’s Eve, is memorable and hassle-free.
