Assam CM Sarma Flags Off 200 Green Buses from Guwahati, Signaling a Major Step toward a Pollution-Free Environment

Guwahati, January 1 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led a groundbreaking initiative today by flagging off 200 electric buses from Guwahati, marking one of the government’s most significant endeavors in achieving a pollution-free environment.

Highlighting the occasion, CM Sarma addressed the media, stating, In one of our biggest pushes towards a pollution-free environment in Assam, I dedicated 200 AC e-Buses today, which will ply across Guwahati and adjoining areas.

He further expressed the administration’s ambitious vision, asserting, By 2025, we want to establish Guwahati as the country’s first city to be powered by a 100 per cent green public transportation system. This new fleet builds upon the 100 CNG buses dedicated to the New Year.

The honorable State Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, also present at the flag-off ceremony, commended the pivotal role the new electric buses will play in transforming Assam’s transportation landscape.

Additionally, during the event, CM Sarma ceremonially launched the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), a versatile transport card aimed at revolutionizing travel convenience in Guwahati and beyond.

The NCMC, introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, offers a comprehensive solution for easy payment of travel fares, toll taxes, retail purchases, as well as cash withdrawals. Operating through the RuPay card system, the NCMC is obtainable as a prepaid, debit, or credit card from associated banks.

Encouraging everyone to obtain their NCMC, CM Sarma emphasized the simplicity it brings to transportation, stating, I urge everyone to get their NCMC to ensure ease of transportation.

The introduction of these 200 AC e-buses, combined with the launch of the NCMC, represents Assam’s firm commitment to a greener future and improved accessibility for its citizens. As the state works relentlessly toward its goal of a pollution-free environment, this remarkable initiative sets an inspiring example for the nation and the world.
