Caretaker Punjab CM Inaugurates 150-bed Emergency Block at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan

LAHORE – Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by Federal Minister Gohar Ejaz, unveiled the new Emergency Block at Jinnah Hospital which consists of 150 beds. The inauguration took place on the final day of 2023.

During his visit, CM Naqvi inspected the latest medical facilities provided in the new emergency block. He also inaugurated the upgraded medical and surgical emergency units and expressed his appreciation for the ICU and the addition of new beds.

The CM praised the treatment facilities available in the new emergency block, emphasizing that it boasts state-of-the-art equipment and can accommodate 150 patients. Patients will receive excellent treatment in this new facility.

CM Naqvi commended Federal Minister Gohar Ejaz, Secretary Health, Secretary C&W, the Jinnah Hospital administration, and the entire team involved in completing this project. He extended his congratulations to the team for their dedication and hard work.

During his inspection, Mohsin Naqvi also visited the new air conditioning plant. He was informed that the emergency block was made infection-free by using anti-bacterial paint for the first time. Additionally, infection-free tiles were installed in the operation theatres, a first for the emergency block.

In a media briefing, CM Naqvi announced that five major hospitals in Punjab will be inaugurated within the next four to five days, following their upgrades. The Emergency of Children Hospital Multan, Nishtar-II, PIC Lahore, and Mayo Hospital are all currently operational.

DG Khan Cardiology Hospital, an old project, is nearing completion after extensive day and night work. Furthermore, the Indus Hospital will be donated to the Punjab government, transforming it into a cancer hospital. This donation is estimated to cost between Rs60 to 70 billion.

Hopeful of finalizing matters soon, Mohsin Naqvi stated that the Indus Hospital management has been cooperative in making it the first complete cancer hospital in Punjab, shouldering a significant patient load. The cancer hospital will provide excellent and free treatment, which is unprecedented under Punjab government management.

CM Naqvi expressed his admiration for Federal Minister Gohar Ejaz’s dedication to Jinnah Hospital, where he has selflessly served for many years. Gohar Ejaz also provides free food in Punjab’s major hospitals and effectively manages the dialysis center. His noble actions will be rewarded.

CM Naqvi highlighted the upgradation of the PIC’s emergency unit and requested its friends to also contribute towards its improvement. He credited the hard work of his team, who have been tirelessly working in the field past 2 am, for the successful completion of hospital upgrades. These upgraded hospitals will be handed over to the incoming government in 2024.

CM Naqvi expressed confidence that the incoming government will continue to surpass their accomplishments. Numerous projects, including 104 major roads, 100 hospitals, expressways, main highways, and others, are set to be completed by January 31st.

Ensuring an adequate supply of medicines in the emergency, Mohsin Naqvi assured that any registered complaints regarding shortages are dealt with promptly. The operation theatres have been upgraded and made infection-free, aligning with their commitment to saving patients’ lives.

Federal Minister Gohar Ejaz extended his New Year congratulations to CM Mohsin Naqvi and commended the entire team at Jinnah Hospital, the Provincial Health Minister, and other stakeholders for completing the emergency block’s upgrade, consisting of 150 beds, in just three months. The Punjab government can count on their continued cooperation.

Provincial ministers Dr. Javed Akram, Amir Mir, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Mian Ahsan of Indus Hospital, Anwar Ghani, Fawad Mukhtar, Secretary Health, Secretary C&W, Commissioner Lahore Division, CCPO, MS Jinnah Hospital, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College, and other officials were present during the visit.

In a separate matter, CM Mohsin Naqvi directed relevant authorities to expedite the upgradation work at Lahore Zoo. Expressing disappointment with the sluggish pace of work, the CM requested the Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority team to accelerate the process. He also urged the zoo administration to make the place more accessible to children and enhance the collection of animals.

With these developments in the healthcare sector and a focus on revamping Lahore Zoo, the Punjab government is working diligently to improve the lives of its citizens.
