Chennai, January 1: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to embark on its first-ever space mission on January 1. This historic event will witness the launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-DL (PSLV-DL) variant rocket, carrying the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) along with 10 other payloads. While ISRO has conducted space missions in the past, this marks the first time they will embark on such an endeavor on New Year’s Day.

At 9.10 a.m., the PSLV-DL variant rocket, also known as PSLV-C58, will be launched from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Standing tall at 44.4 meters and weighing 260 tons, the rocket will carry the XPoSat, weighing about 740 kg, along with 10 scientific payloads attached to the PSLV Orbital Platform. Approximately 21 minutes into its flight, the PSLV-C58 will safely orbit XPoSat at an altitude of around 650 km.

The PSLV is a versatile rocket with various configurations that use a combination of solid and liquid fuels. It has five different types – Standard, Core Alone, XL, DL, and QL – each with specific characteristics based on the number of strap-on boosters used. The number of strap-on boosters depends on the weight of the satellites being launched. The PSLV-XL, QL, and DL variants utilize 6, 4, and 2 solid rocket strap-on motors respectively, while the core-alone version (PSLV-CA) does not require any strap-ons.

This landmark mission signifies ISRO’s commitment to advancing space exploration and satellite technology. With the launch of XPoSat, ISRO aims to gather vital data using its X-ray Polarimeter, helping scientists study celestial bodies and phenomena with X-ray emissions. This mission is a significant step towards enhancing our understanding of the universe.

As the countdown to the launch begins, ISRO has shared live streaming details, making it possible for enthusiasts and curious minds worldwide to witness this remarkable event. The live streaming will allow viewers to delve into the intricacies of the space mission and experience the thrill of this groundbreaking moment.

While ISRO has achieved numerous milestones in its journey, this latest mission holds immense promise for scientific progress and space exploration. No doubt, the success of this endeavor will inspire future generations of scientists and researchers in India and beyond.

As we eagerly await the launch of PSLV-C58/XPoSat, let us commemorate this significant milestone for ISRO and the Indian space community. This mission heralds the dawning of a new era in space exploration, reaffirming India’s contributions and capabilities in the global arena.
