The State President of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. M.A Sajid, met with the Secretary of Education on Monday to bring attention to the long-standing issue of vacant Personal Assistant (PST) and Graduate Trained Teacher (GTT) posts in the education department. Sajid, accompanied by a delegation of young adults, presented data obtained from the Right to Information (RTI) Act, which indicated that out of a total of 717 sanctioned posts for PST and GTT, 198 posts were currently Subjudice in the Supreme Court of India.

Additionally, the secretary of education had stated in an interview on May 24th, 2023, that the notification regarding the vacant posts would be published within 15 days, but they have yet to be released. Sajid emphasized that quality education is based on the foundation of dedicated and competent teachers who play a crucial role in shaping the young minds of society for future development.

He urged the Secretary of Education to expedite the recruitment process by intervening in the matter and considering the candidates’ aspirations in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. According to RR published on May 11th, 2023, claims and objections were required to be submitted by May 31st, 2023, for the remaining 519 vacant posts. Filling these posts could greatly benefit the educational system in Andaman & Nicobar Islands by ensuring quality teachers are available to serve the community’s needs.

It is important to prioritize education, and filling vacant PST and GTT positions is a step towards achieving this goal. The NSUI will continue to monitor this situation, and encourage government officials to prioritize and expedite the recruitment process. It is our hope that a positive change will be made for the sake of the community.
