The High Court of Kerala has instructed the state government, Keltron, and several private companies pertaining to the Safe Kerala initiative to indicate their stance on a Congress party PIL against the installation of AI cameras. The bench of Chief Justice Sarasa Venkatanarayana Bhatti and Basant Balaji also requested that the parties refrain from making financial payments related to the project without notifying the court. The court has sent a legal notice to the aforementioned parties, stating that the PIL must be analysed from the viewpoint of variables in the project and the difference between BOOT and annuity modules. The two Congress leaders, V D Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala, who had filed the PIL, were requested to submit a further statement emphasising their zero tolerance toward corruption. The plea challenged the LDF government’s orders regarding the installation and deployment of the AI cameras across the state, emphasising illegalities, nepotism, favouritism, and corruption in the handing out of the contract and its operation.
