Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed confidence in the Congress Party’s victory in the upcoming state Legislative Council elections, with the filing of nominations by three party candidates. Former Chief Minister Jagadeesh Shettar, Minister N.S. Bosaraju, and Thippannappa Kamakanur have put themselves forward to the vote, with Siddaramaiah stating that, despite no clear opposition candidates, Congress will emerge victorious regardless. Siddaramaiah will also be meeting with President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi while Food Minister K.H. Muniyappa makes an appeal for the supply of rice. The state requires over 2,28,000 metric tonnes of rice, with West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh among potential procurement areas. There has been no confirmation of rice availability yet, with quotations being called from NCCF, NAFED, and Kendriya Bhandar in the meantime. Siddaramaiah criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concept of cooperative federalism in light of the lack of cooperation being shown regarding rice supply in Karnataka.
