Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Suspected Drunk Driver in Las Vegas, US

A pedestrian tragically lost their life on Christmas Eve when they were hit by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver in northeast Las Vegas. The driver, Alexandro Hernandez-Herrera, 29, has been arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI after failing six sobriety tests, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday when Hernandez-Herrera was traveling northbound on North Lamb Boulevard in a 2023 Tesla Model 3. As a vehicle ahead of him stopped for a pedestrian walking from west to east on Lamb, Hernandez-Herrera allegedly failed to slow down and veered into the right-hand lane, passing the stopped vehicle.

According to the police report, the Tesla collided with the pedestrian and continued for a short distance before coming to a stop. A witness at the scene told officers that The pedestrian was embedded in the windshield of the vehicle. Tragically, the pedestrian, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead soon after the police arrived.

When officers arrived, they found Hernandez-Herrera seated on the sidewalk near the victim’s body. There was shattered windshield glass on him, and his hands were covered in blood, as described in the report.

Hernandez-Herrera informed the police that he was uncertain whether the pedestrian was jaywalking or crossing at a crosswalk. He also mentioned that he was on his way to a Christmas dinner when the accident occurred.

As a result of the incident, Hernandez-Herrera was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of DUI, according to the police report.
