Bobby Rivers, a well-known personality on the Food Network and VH1, has passed away at the age of 70. The sad news was confirmed by his sister, Betsy Rivers, who stated that he passed away on Tuesday and is now free from pain.
Rivers had an impressive career in the entertainment industry, starting as the first Black film critic for a Milwaukee television station in 1979. He later became a contributor for Milwaukee’s nationally syndicated PM Magazine. In 1984, Rivers became a co-host and associate producer of a live weekday show on WISN, but unfortunately, the show was canceled the following year.
After his time in Milwaukee, Rivers worked as a news reporter for WNBC in New York, where he was part of the Weekend Today cast. Additionally, he graduated from Marquette University in the 1970s.
Rivers made significant contributions to VH1, where he joined the team in 1987 and subsequently hosted his own show called Watch Bobby Rivers in 1988. In 2000, he became the entertainment editor for ABC News and Lifetime TV’s Lifetime Live. Following the show’s cancellation, Rivers went on to host Top 5” on the Food Network in 2002.
Throughout his career, Rivers showcased his talent, professionalism, and dedication to the world of entertainment. His passing is a loss felt deeply by the industry and his fans alike.
