The Baptist Church in Plateau State, Nigeria, has confirmed the loss of nine of its members in the recent attacks that took place in the state. Rev. Keoleh Saleh, President of the Baptist Conference in Plateau, revealed this sad news on Wednesday. These attacks, which occurred across 15 communities in the Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas, resulted in the death of at least 160 people and left numerous others injured.

The criminals behind these coordinated attacks also caused substantial destruction, including the damaging of 1,290 houses, farmlands, and other properties with an estimated worth of millions of naira. Presently, more than 80 individuals are receiving treatment for their injuries at various hospitals in Plateau State.

During his visit to the Dares community, where a mass burial was held for the victims, Saleh expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. He stated that the deceased were members of the Nasara Baptist Church, Dares in Tanti Baba of Bokkos. Saleh also mentioned that the rescue operation was still ongoing as several other members of the church remained missing.

In light of this tragedy, Saleh urged the church members and the community at large to place their trust in God, despite the difficult circumstances they currently face. He further called upon the federal government and security agencies to address the recurring attacks, mindless killings, and wanton destruction of properties in Plateau State.

The loss of lives and the destruction caused by these attacks highlight the urgent need for action and security measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of Plateau State. The Baptist Church, along with other affected communities and individuals, is in mourning and seeks support from the government and relevant authorities to prevent further tragedies.

In a society where freedom of speech and press freedom are vital, media platforms like Ripples Nigeria strive to uphold these values. However, balanced and fearless journalism driven by data comes at significant financial costs. Donations from well-meaning individuals and organizations are essential to ensure that credible and reliable information remains readily available to citizens and institutions for the betterment of society.

It is important for all stakeholders to unite and address the security challenges faced by Plateau State, safeguarding the lives and properties of its people. Only through collective efforts can lasting solutions be found, bringing about peace, stability, and development to the region.
