LAHORE: Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized the need for authentic data to address the issue of smog in Lahore. In an effort to tackle this pressing problem, a special team of environment experts from China will be visiting the city next week, as announced by the chief minister. This decision stems from Naqvi’s commitment to conducting an in-depth study with international consultants to unveil the root causes of escalating smog.

The chief minister chaired the Cabinet Committee for Anti-Smog on Tuesday, where environmental and health experts provided detailed insights into the current smog situation. Various provincial ministers and health experts also attended the meeting. Expressing concern, Naqvi stressed the importance of relying on authentic research to understand the reasons behind the surge in smog. He highlighted that comprehensive measures to safeguard public health can only be formulated with accurate and reliable data.

In addition to advocating for the need for authentic data, Naqvi urged the public to wear masks as a protective measure against diseases caused by smog. He also directed authorities to crackdown on sellers of substandard petrol and diesel, emphasizing the need for administrative action against those engaged in such practices.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop-3 project has reached a significant milestone, with completion progress reaching 60%. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted a comprehensive review of the project’s ongoing progress and issued directives for its expeditious completion. The project spans 8km from Adda Plot Raiwind to Maraka Multan Road.

During a meeting at the FWO camp office, the chief minister received a detailed briefing on the project’s progress from Colonel Jamal and Colonel Ahmed. The meeting addressed various issues related to the project, including weather-related challenges, such as fog affecting motorway operations and causing traffic congestion.

Naqvi assured the resolution of these issues without allowing an increase in project costs. He reiterated the government’s commitment to monitor the SL3 project and other important initiatives, with ministers overseeing critical locations, even during the night. He expressed his full support for the dedicated teams working on completing the projects.

Furthermore, with the renovation and expansion works of the historic Bibi Pakdaman shrine nearing completion, the chief minister visited the site to review the progress. The shrine is set to reopen its doors to pilgrims before December 31, with 97% of the works already finished. Naqvi, accompanied by provincial ministers and officials, inspected the ongoing finishing touches to the main shrine structure and iconic domes.

In conclusion, the chief minister’s focus on acquiring authentic data to address smog-related issues demonstrates his commitment to safeguarding public health. The upcoming visit of Chinese environment experts highlights his dedication to seeking international expertise. Additionally, the review of the Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop-3 project and the progress made on the Bibi Pakdaman shrine restoration reflect the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and preserve historical landmarks.

It is hoped that these initiatives will contribute to a healthier and more prosperous future for the people of Lahore.
