MIL-OSI Australia: NDIS participants supported in far north Queensland

The Albanese Labor Government is taking action to support participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in far north Queensland, following the impact of Tropical Cyclone Jasper. With an estimated 7,256 NDIS participants residing in the affected areas, the Hon Bill Shorten, Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, assures that support will be provided.

Working in close collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) aims to ensure that NDIS participants are not left behind during this challenging time. Minister Shorten emphasizes the importance of every individual having access to necessary support.

Mission Australia has partnered with the NDIA to carry out welfare calls to ensure participants receive the required assistance. Additionally, plan reviews are being prioritized for those individuals with urgent support needs, such as the replacement of assistive technology.

To provide immediate assistance, a dedicated hotline has been activated for impacted NDIS participants and providers. Encouraging individuals to prioritize their safety, Minister Shorten advises participants to call the NDIS’ National Contact Centre (NCC) rather than visiting an NDIS office in person.

The NCC is available Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm, to address any concerns and provide additional support to participants. Minister Shorten urges those in need to reach out to the hotline.

The Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to supporting NDIS participants impacted by Cyclone Jasper demonstrates their dedication to ensuring that every individual receives the necessary assistance and is not left behind in times of crisis. With the collaboration of government agencies and organizations, Far North Queensland’s NDIS participants can have confidence that support is readily available.

As the recovery efforts continue in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Jasper, the focus remains on providing essential services and assistance to those who need it the most. With the establishment of a dedicated hotline and ongoing welfare calls, the government is prioritizing the safety and welfare of NDIS participants in the affected areas.

Participants are strongly advised to contact the National Contact Centre through the dedicated hotline, rather than making unnecessary trips to NDIS offices during this difficult period. By doing so, individuals will not only ensure their own safety but also receive the support they require in a timely manner.

The Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to the wellbeing of NDIS participants is clear. By working closely with various agencies and organizations, they aim to guarantee that assistance reaches every participant in need. Regardless of the challenges posed by Cyclone Jasper, NDIS participants in far north Queensland can rest assured that the government is standing by their side.
