On Tuesday, December 26, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKK) will decide on the fate of MP Sali Berisha. SPAK (Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime) has requested the tightening of security measures for the former prime minister, who is under investigation for corruption in the privatization of the former sports club Partizani. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has requested the measure of house arrest for Berisha. Judge Irena Gjoka is expected to call all parties involved in Tuesday’s court session. This decision comes after Parliament granted authorization for SPAK to arrest Berisha, who had previously refused to comply with the special court’s decision regarding his obligations and travel restrictions. The Special Court was approached by SPAK after Berisha contested the initial decision, claiming it was unconstitutional. Berisha argued that SPAK needed prior authorization from Parliament. However, SPAK believes the measure is a restriction rather than a deprivation of liberty. The court session at GJKKO, respecting the Christmas Day, will occur on Tuesday.
