Delhi Airport issues passenger advisory as visibility drops due to fog

New Delhi, December 25 – Delhi Airport has issued a passenger advisory after thick fog disrupted operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Flights that are not CAT III compliant may be affected, and passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information. This comes as the cold wave tightens its grip on North India, resulting in even colder mornings accompanied by dense fog in the national capital.

The airport authorities have initiated the CAT-III Instrument Landing System (ILS), also known as the anti-fog landing system, to assist with precision approaches and landings in low runway visibility conditions. Similarly, flight operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad have also been impacted by dense fog.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature in Delhi on Monday morning dropped to 9.4 degrees Celsius. The visibility level decreased to 125 meters in several parts of Delhi, causing difficulties for commuters. Most parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) also experienced low visibility.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering around 400, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The dense fog and poor air quality are adding to the challenges faced by travelers and residents in the city.

The passenger advisory issued by Delhi Airport indicates the seriousness of the situation and highlights the need for passengers to stay informed and closely monitor their flight schedules. The airport authorities are making every effort to continue operations smoothly amid the foggy conditions.

Travelers are advised to stay updated by reaching out to their respective airlines for any changes or delays in their flights. The CAT III system implemented at the airport will aid pilots in navigating through the dense fog and ensure safe landings and take-offs.

The combination of low temperatures, reduced visibility, and poor air quality poses significant challenges for commuters and residents alike. It is crucial for individuals to take necessary precautions, including wearing appropriate warm clothing and masks to protect themselves from both the extreme weather and air pollution.

As the cold wave persists, it is advisable for travelers to check the weather conditions before embarking on their journeys and keep track of any advisories or updates from the airport and airlines.

Amidst these challenging conditions, Delhi Airport and other authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Despite the inconvenience caused, their primary concern remains the well-being of travelers.

The situation serves as a reminder for everyone to exercise caution and prioritize their safety during this period of adverse weather and hazardous air quality conditions.
