LAHORE – In an effort to clear Lahore of encroachments, the district administration’s anti-encroachment operations continue for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday. Various hotspots areas of the provincial capital have been targeted to remove illegal structures and restore order. The operation, supported by Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL), police, and other departments, aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and tackle the issue of encroachments head-on.
During the operation on Saturday, conducted from College Road to Barkat Chowk, Township, and Shah Allam Market to Circular Road, 28 encroachers were apprehended while 25 shops were sealed. Additionally, 35 signboards were removed and a significant amount of confiscated items, equivalent to three truck-loads, were relocated to the junkyard.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider emphasized the significance of these anti-encroachment efforts, stating, As per instructions by the Punjab CM, the operation against encroachments will continue. Haider further added that this operation plays a vital role in restoring order and ensuring unhindered traffic movement on busy roads. She warned that no leniency would be shown to those involved in encroachments and urged citizens to report any such occurrences after the operation. Cooperation from both the public and traders was requested to facilitate the authorities in their mission to eradicate encroachments.
Friday’s operation also yielded significant results, with 98 individuals apprehended and 70 shops and restaurants sealed. In addition, three truck-loads of material, including four handcarts, were impounded. The use of heavy machinery facilitated the demolition of various sheds and makeshift structures found in violation of the law.
