Air India, owned by the Tata Group, has received India’s first ever Airbus A350, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s transformation. The A350-900, registered as VT-JRA, will initially operate domestically for crew familiarization before commencing commercial services in January 2024. This state-of-the-art aircraft, equipped with a three-class cabin configuration and 316 seats, will be deployed on longer-haul routes later.

Air India expressed its excitement about the delivery, calling it a red-letter day for the airline. Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Air India, stated, The A350 is not just metal and engines; it’s the flying embodiment of the relentless efforts of all Air India employees towards our airline’s continuing transformation and of our commitment to setting new benchmarks. It is also, in many ways, a declaration of Indian aviation’s resurgence on the world stage.

The Airbus A350-900 features a three-class cabin configuration with cutting-edge design and technology. The 28 private business class suites, 24 premium economy seats, and 264 economy class seats offer a comfortable and luxurious travel experience. All seats on the aircraft are equipped with the latest-generation Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system and HD screens, ensuring passengers are entertained throughout their journey.

As Air India prepares for the introduction of the A350 into its fleet, the airline plans to familiarize its pilots and crew with the new aircraft through short sectors domestically, under the guidance of experienced instructors. This will ensure a smooth transition to operating longer-haul flights later in the year.

In addition to the A350 delivery, the company unveiled new uniforms for its cabin crew and pilots, designed by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra. These uniforms reflect Air India’s commitment to modernization and provide a fresh look for the airline’s staff.

Air India’s order for 20 Airbus A350-900 aircraft marks a significant investment in fleet renewal. The airline aims to enhance customer experience and establish itself as a leading carrier in the global aviation industry. With this delivery, Air India becomes the first Indian carrier to introduce the Airbus A350 into its fleet.

While Air India prepares for regulatory processes, such as customs clearance and DGCA checks, the airline is also scheduled to receive five more A350 aircraft by March 2024. This phased induction of the A350 is part of Air India’s strategic plan to enhance its operations and expand its network.

As Air India enters this exciting new phase, the airline remains committed to providing excellent service and meeting the evolving needs of its passengers. The introduction of the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 will further strengthen Air India’s position in the aviation industry and contribute to the resurgence of Indian aviation on the global stage.
