Guwahati (Assam) [India], December 22 – The Assam cabinet has approved the construction of 1.30 lakh houses under the Chief Minister Awas Yojana in rural areas, as announced by Assam Minister Ashok Singhal. These houses will be built with the same specifications and size as those provided under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana. The initiative aims to cater to areas where people have not received houses under the Prime Minister’s scheme.

Singhal stated, Assam cabinet has decided that we will have 1.30 lakh CM Awas Yojana houses in rural and Gramin areas with the same size and specification as the houses that are given in PM Awas Yojana. These houses are to be given in those areas where people have not received the PM Awas Yojana houses.

The Assam cabinet recently made several significant decisions focused on the welfare of the state’s indigenous minorities, the establishment of libraries, and ethical treatment of animals while respecting traditions.

As part of their efforts, the state cabinet has resolved to conduct a comprehensive socio-economic assessment of Assam’s indigenous minorities. Additionally, the Directorate of Char Areas Development, Assam, will be renamed the Directorate of Minority Affairs and Char Areas, Assam. The socio-economic assessment will be carried out through the Directorate of Minority Affairs and Char Areas, covering indigenous Assamese Muslims.

To foster a reading habit among students, the state plans to establish libraries for children and adolescents, along with digital infrastructure, under the ‘Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2023-24’. The initiative aims to commence the construction of new libraries, as well as the procurement of books, furniture, and computers with internet connectivity, benefiting 2197 village panchayats and 400 municipal wards at an estimated cost of Rs 259.70 crore. The objective is to provide children and adolescents with access to the latest books and connect them with resources from the National Digital Library.

In recognition of the cultural significance of traditional bullfights, the cabinet has decided to draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the well-being of the animals involved in these events. The SOP will aim to prevent deliberate torture or cruelty to the animals during the annual Moh-juj festival, a long-standing tradition in Assamese culture.

These decisions by the Assam cabinet highlight the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, including the construction of houses for rural communities and preservation of cultural traditions. Through initiatives like the establishment of libraries and the socio-economic assessment of indigenous minorities, Assam aims to promote education, inclusivity, and the overall development of its people.
