Over 350 female athletes recently turned up for the Mumbai leg tryout of the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League, which has been dubbed the first-of-its-kind women’s basketball league.
The league offers a unique opportunity for female basketball players in India to join a 5×5 Pro Basketball League that features six teams. Thus far, the league has held two tryouts in Noida and Hyderabad, with the third taking place in Mumbai from June 16 to June 18.
The three-day tryout was a massive success, with 350 athletes showing up to participate. Selectors for the event included retired basketball coaches of the Sports Authority of India, H Parmeshwar and Jagat Narayan Nehra, and the league is expected to attract top players and coaches from across the country.
Sunny Bhandarkar, CEO of Elite Pro Basketball League, noted that the turnout for the Mumbai tryout was very good and that the league is committed to providing a platform for players to boost their profiles and further their careers. The ultimate goal is to raise the profile of basketball in India through the Elite Women’s Pro Basketball League.
