Chingari, the popular Indian short video app, has laid off 20% of its workforce in an organisational restructuring move. The company spokesperson noted that the decision was the toughest yet for management and will significantly impact the employees. To cushion the effect of the job losses, the company is offering a severance package equal to two months’ salary and an additional three months of health insurance coverage. Chingari has promised to provide all-encompassing support, including career counselling and job placement assistance to impacted staff. The company’s founder Aditya Kothari resigned recently, and the layoffs are reportedly connected to his exit. The app had over 160 million users across 15 languages with five million daily and 40 million monthly active users as of late last year.
