The Australian government has rejected a request from the United States to send a warship to the Red Sea in response to attacks on commercial vessels by Yemen’s Houthi militia. Instead, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will deploy additional troops to the region. Richard Marles, the minister for defense, announced that Australia would not be sending a ship or a plane but would increase the number of ADF officers at the Combined Maritime Force (CMF) headquarters in Bahrain. Currently, there are five ADF personnel stationed there, and an additional six officers will be deployed under Operation Prosperity Guardian, bringing the total to 16. Australia’s commitment to promoting maritime security and stability in the Red Sea remains strong.
