EQT Corporation has recently announced that it will purchase a 90% stake in HDFC Credila for INR103.5bn ($1.4bn). The consortium led by BPEA EQT private equity fund, comprised of EQT and co-investor ChrysCapital, is set to purchase the majority stake in the Indian student loan firm, while HDFC will retain the remaining 9.99% stake in the company. Under the deal, the consortium will invest INR20bn in HDFC Credila’s next phase of growth, with the goal of supporting postgraduate studies for Indian students. With India’s growing middle class, the demand for higher education is increasing, making the investment a strategic move for EQT and consortium partners.
