‘What do you use ChatGPT for?’ asked Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder of Ola Krutrim AI, an Indian chatbot trained on 2 trillion tokens. The desi AI developed by Ola is proficient in 22 Indian languages and can reply in 10 major languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, and more. During its launch, Bhavish showcased the unique capabilities of the AI that is trained on a brobdingnagian proportion of dataset brimming with desi content. The Kurtrim AI wrote an invite in impeccable Hindi welcoming the guests for the demo. It was also prompted to write a few verses in Bengali, which it did with flying colors. Union minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar lauded the endeavor and remarked, ‘can’t wait to test drive Krutrim.’

The next phase is to identify desi use cases for individuals and enterprises. OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft are the front runners here with a sizable chunk of the market. Elon Musk’s xAI still lags and is slowly catching up. However, none of these are exclusively trained to handle the cultural context of the sub-continent. Bhavish and co. still need to curate the user sensibilities as they trudge over uncharted territory with Ola Krutrim AI. The Ola boss’s question, meanwhile, triggered a flurry of responses from netizens. As usual, there were grievances for Ola Electric, a few potshots at the company, some appreciation, followed by more brickbats.

One user jibed that they write concern mails to Ola Electric’s customer support with the help of ChatGPT. Another wrote, ‘how to get rid of ola scooty after purchasing it for 1.5 lakh.’

Other users stated that they learn a host of stuff via the OpenAI chatbot and do a variety of tasks, including programming, storywriting, analyzing images, documents, among others. Some users even use it for game development, cultural references, and *drum rolls* relationship advices. One person wrote that they tally their monthly milk expenses on ChatGPT. ‘Apana dukh dard baantne ke liye’ quipped another.

Meanwhile, one user wrote how his entire family uses ChatGPT for various utilities, from homeworks to emails, etc. The netizen labeled the chatbot as nothing more than a 21st-century calculator.
