Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s efforts to expand his party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), in Maharashtra have been met with doubt from Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Leader of Opposition, Ajit Pawar. Pawar stated that even prominent regional leaders like Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav had previously tried to make inroads in the western state but failed to do so. He also questioned the funds used to put up large hoardings and TV advertisements for BRS in Maharashtra. While some leaders from NCP and other parties are joining BRS, Pawar believes it is only out of concern that they might not get tickets to contest due to alliances between the other parties. Additionally, the NCP has indicated that it may stake claim for the post of Opposition leader in the legislative council after Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena gained an equal tally with Manisha Kayande’s defection.
