A man has been charged with murder after a fatal collision in the center of Ilkeston, a town in Derbyshire. The incident occurred early on Saturday, December 16, when officers received reports of a serious collision on Market Place.
According to Derbyshire police, 26-year-old Samuel Wilson from Long Eaton was struck by a van along with two other men. Despite efforts to save him, Mr. Wilson tragically died at the scene, while the two other men were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Zac Newman, a 27-year-old resident of The Crescent in Stapleford, has been charged with murder as well as section 18 wounding with intent and attempted section 18 GBH. He has been remanded and is scheduled to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court later today, Monday, December 18.
The Market Place area was closed off for investigation on Saturday, but it reopened to the public on Saturday evening. Police patrols are ongoing in the area, and the police are urging anyone with concerns to approach the officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Croome, who is leading the investigation, expressed his condolences to Mr. Wilson’s family and urged any witnesses or individuals present at the scene to come forward with any information.
